Dr. David Theuerkauf, Managing DVM

Dr. David Theuerkauf, Managing DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Theuerkauf is originally from Menominee, Michigan, where he grew up in a large family working on the family farm. He attended Michigan State University, receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1985. He has enjoyed practicing veterinary medicine for Northwoods Animal Hospital after joining the team in 1987. He appreciates the multiple facets that general practice offers with particular interests in ophthalmology, soft tissue surgery, and preventative medicine. Dr. Dave and his wife Audrey have three children, and they all enjoy the year-round outdoor activities the Northwoods has to offer.

Dr. Chelsea Delzer, Managing DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Chelsea Delzer is a 2022 graduate of Colorado State University. Dr. Delzer is originally from Berlin, Wi. She attended University of Wisconsin – Platteville for her undergraduate degree, gaining a B.S in Biology. She enjoys riding her horses (Ace and Moon), running, water skiing, and spending time with her dog (Benelli) and husband Jared. Dr. Chelsea enjoys the variety of cases seen in general practice and has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery and internal medicine.

Dr. Courtney Buser, Associate DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Courtney Buser is originally from Stoughton, WI. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in the spring of 2025. Immediately after graduation, she and her fiancé, Brent, moved to the northwoods with their cats Misty and Koda. Dr. Courtney is still exploring her professional interests but has blossoming passions with wildlife, working dogs (particularly sled dogs), and fish. Outside of work, she enjoys hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, knitting, reading, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Hannah Heikkinen, Associate DVM

Dr. Hannah Heikkinen, Associate DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Hannah Heikkinen earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2026. Her background includes several years of hands-on clinical experience as a certified veterinary technician in both rural mixed animal general practice and small animal emergency medicine. She enjoys building lasting relationships with clients and has a special interest in urgent care and surgery. Originally from Prentice, Wisconsin, Dr. Hannah is proud to return to the Northwoods to serve her community. She and her husband, Cameron, share a home in the country filled with their horses, dogs, cats and chickens. In her free time, she enjoys riding her horses, traveling, and reading.
Dr. Heide Meier, Seasonal Associate DVM

Dr. Heide Meier, Seasonal Associate DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Heide Meier grew up in Palatine, Illinois. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1989 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the same institution in 1993. Dr. Meier has enjoyed a diverse career that includes private practice as well as teaching at Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She loves all aspects of general practice and is committed to providing gentle, personalized care for every pet and pet parent. Dr. Meier is married to Dr. Bill Meier, a veterinary pathologist. Together they live with their teenage son, Christian, three dogs — Tank (English Labrador), Elvis (Miniature Schnauzer), and Moose (Bullmastiff) — and two Congo African Grey parrots, BooBoo and Cookie. Outside of work, she loves exploring the beauty of the Northwoods and spending quality time with her family and pets.

About Karen

Karen started her profession as a licensed veterinary nurse in Colorado in 1998. She studied veterinary medicine at the University of Washington - Madison and moved back to Wisconsin in 2007 with her family, where she joined Northwoods Animal Hospital in 2008. Karen appreciates every part of her career and has a passion for progressive medicine, quality care, client education, and pain management. She also grew to enjoy all aspects of the business while taking on various roles. She loves spending time outdoors year-round, downhill skiing, water sports, wildlife, and doing art in her free time. The majority of her time is spent with her son, teaching him about the world and exploring it through nature!

About Angie

Angie has been with the Northwoods Animal Hospital team since 2008. She is the team’s lead receptionist and technician assistant. Angie moved here from Merrill in 2007 with her husband and two children. They also have two Labradors named Timber and Willow. In her free time, she enjoys being outside, spending time with her family, kayaking, and fishing.

About Amy
Amy is a Rhinelander High School graduate that moved to Madison WI to become a licensed veterinary technician. She moved back after 25+ years of working in animal shelter medicine. When time allows Amy loves to foster kittens and she continues to also work remotely for a non-profit animal welfare organization in Madison.

Jan has been grooming pets for 22 years and has been with Northwoods Animal Hospital since 2003. In her free time, she enjoys riding a Harley with her husband, off-road jeeping, and walking in the woods with their two dogs.
